The academy, which has already received planning permission, is a key element of the ODA’s legacy strategy, and is set to open in September 2013. During the Olympics it will act as the main operations centre for the Olympic Village, which will house athletes during the games.
The academy will be at the north-eastern end of the village, and will house a nursery, primary and secondary school alongside adult learning facilities and a day-care centre for 0-5 year olds.
Chobham Academy will specialise in the performing arts and English, and will also focus on sports excellence, with access to the nearby legacy sports venues.
Plans also include a community arts complex, a civic space for local residents’ meetings and events, and a sports facility available to students and residents.
