Last week the Glowfrog team attended the launch of Smile for London, a campaign aiming to brighten up the London commute. The competition was to create a twenty second silent film within the theme ‘beat the January Blues’. The winning 20 films, deemed to be the most uplifting, are to be screened on the London Underground for two weeks as of the 17th of January. It is the hope that this scheme will become a permanent feature and a platform to showcase new talent.
Celebrated artists and film makers such as Aardman Animation, director Saam Farahmand and painter Stuart Pearson Wright, who’s first work in motion stars Keira Knightley, have been invited to produce works to run alongside the call for submissions of inspiring silent films.
Glowfrog put together a film called ‘London’s Blooming’ which you can see below. Hundreds of films were submitted and ‘London’s Blooming’ directed by Nigel Hunt and created by Nathan Juno made it to the final shortlist of fifty films.
The launch was held at the Museum of London, a fantastic venue and the winning videos played all night on a large screen floating above our heads. The Glowfrog team had a great night, it was fantastic to see all the other films played on the big screen.
